The trip is designed for Photographers aspiring to capture images of Borneo's pride ! Places with high concentration of widllife, unique flora and scenic landscapes of Sabah. Each trip is led by our Naturalist/Photographer. Their vast knowledge in natural history will ensure excep tional learning experience and prodcutive photography. You will travel in smaller group, staying at comfortable jungle lodges in prime locations that provide greater photo opportunity.

SAMPLE 8 DAYS 7 NIGHTS ITINERARY

Day 1

Arrival - Kota Kinabalu (D)

Upon arrival, we transfer you to the Gaya Centre  hotel (or equivalent) for check-in .

PM- A short tour around the city before we take you to a local restaurant for a hearty seafood dinner. Overnight Kota Kinabalu.

 

Day 2

Kinabalu National Park (B,L,D)

After early breakfast, we drive for 1.5hours to Kinabalu Park with numerous photo stops, mountain sceneries and local market, if weather is clear we should get spectacular view of Mount Kinabalu.

The Kinabalu Park host Borneo’s rare orchids including the spectacular Nepenthes rajah and more. The rafflesia flower are often seen in bloom around Ranau. Endemic birdlife, the Bornean treepie, Drongos, Minivet, Laughingthrushes and Flycatchers can be photographed around the Park.

Late PM – we return to the hotel for overnight in Kota Kinabalu. 

 

Day 3

Sepilok ~ Labuk Bay (B,L,D)

6.00am – Depart hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight to Sandakan.

Suggested flight : AK6092 ETD 0700 ETA 0745

 

7.45am – From Sandakan airport, stop by for light refreshment before we travel 30 minutes to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Here is where rehabilitated Orang utans are being fed with supplement food twice daily on a platform in the jungle. Sepilok is a good place for close-up shots of these endangered ‘Man of the forest’ – Orang utan, in its natural habitat.

 

Check-in at Sepilok B&B, lunch and rest.

1.30pm - After lunch, we will drive to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, where we shall spend the rest of the afternoon for a chance to photograph the endemic Proboscis monkeys and other wildlife at close range.

 

3.30pm – We head to the Rainforest Discovery Centre to photograph birds along the canopy walkway and its trails. The area is home to some of Borneo’s birds including the Blue-headed Pitta, Rufous-collared Kingfisher and the endemic Bornean Bristlehead.

 

Dinner & Overnight at Sepilok B&B.

 

Day 4

Gomantong & Sukau,Kinabatangan (B.L.D)

Early morning walk to the Rainforest Discovery Centre for a scenic shot of the misty rainforest canopy.

Return to the B&B for breakfast and check-out.

10am – We drive 2 hours to Gomantong Cave- home to millions of swiflets that produces the edible bird’s nest, a Chinese delicacy.

This trip also offers good chances of photographing wild Orang utans, leaf monkeys, Hornbills & Pittas which are commonly sighted around the area.

Check-in and lunch at Bukit Melapi Lodge.

Rest at leisure.

4pm-6.30pm : On our first orientation cruise on the mighty Kinabatangan river, we shall photograph from an open-topped boat powered by 4-stroke engine.  This fiberglass boat is specially designed with a wide-base flooring for photographers to comfortably set up their tripods.

 

After dinner, a powerpoint presentation by Cede followed by star-trail tutorial  (if weather permits).

 

Day 5

Sukau, Kinabatangan (B,L,D)

1 full day shall be spent observing wildlife and photographing from the boat at dawn and dusk. The vast wetlands of Kinabatangan is home to the endemic Proboscis monkeys, long-tailed and Pig-tailed macaques, Silver leaf and Red leaf monkeys, wild orang utans, borneo’s snakes, crocodiles and the Bornean Pygmy elephants. Sightings of the Clouded Leopard, Flat-headed cat, Bornean Ground Cuckoo have been recorded though rarely sighted.

Return to the lodge, dinner and overnight.

Night cruise shall be conducted after dinner in search of nocturnal wildlife.

 

Day  6

 Semporna (B,L,D)

After an early morning cruise and breakfast, check-out and drive  3 hours to Semporna.

Check-in at the Seafest Hotel, lunch and rest.

PM _ The afternoon shall be spent traveling by boat to nearby islands. We photograph sea gypsies  and island sceneries.

Overnight Seafest Hotel.

 

Day  7

 Semporna (B,L,D)

1 fullday shall be spent photographing local market, island sceneries and its people. (Rest in the afternoon when the sun is too hot)

Overnight Seafest Hotel.

 

Day  8

 Semporna ~Tawau~Kuala Lumpur ~Home (B)

7.00am – Breakfast.

7.30am – Pack up and check out from the hotel. Travel 1 .5hours by road to

to Tawau Airport for your onwards flight.

End of service.
