‘Evolution’ of Pied hornbills in Gomantong forest, Sandakan. This hunting behaviour could be for dinner or snacks? Will they evolve to be an efficient bat hunter? Documented during a filming event in year 2018-2021. I dont recall any pied hornbill hunting bats at the summit of Gomantong cave before 2018, this is rather new encounter. Although, they are known to feed on almost edible food, including baby chicks, frogs, snake, etc..
